Where is your future taking you?
With all the chaos, fear and stress in the world it’s easy to get distracted. Unfortunately when you focus on all the negativity and difficulty, whether it’s your own or what’s going on in the world, all it does it make it harder for you to create what you want in your life. Whether that’s a more profitable business, a more intimate relationship or a more fulfilled life there is one essential ingredient you need if you want to create it. This essential ingredient is focus, which is exactly the thing that all the world’s chaos and upset attempts to take away from you.
It’s been said that we no longer live in the information age but in the attention economy. We generally value most that which is scarcest. Back before the internet was created information was scarce, so we valued it more than we do today. The world wide web has made information abundant. Of course quality information is still scarce but now what is most valued is your attention. In a wide, interconnected world it is attention that has become scarce which is why there are so many things screaming to get your attention. This means you need to understand the value of your attention and not just in what you choose to follow on social media. Your attention and where you place it has a huge impact on your ability to create what you want in life.
Your focus affects far more than you realise. If you’re focused on negative stuff your mood is also likely to be pretty negative. Focus on the positive and it’s easier to feel optimistic. When you focus on problems it’s harder to find the solution than if you’re focused on finding the way forward. How you use your focus also has a huge impact on your intuition.
The logic of your intuition, which you can read about in my book The Soul’s Brain, is pattern based. Another way to think about that is that it’s more concerned with your alignment than it is with putting things into the right / wrong basket. In other words, your intuition largely works by knowing what is aligned to your chosen outcome or focus and what isn’t. So when you allow your focus to be distracted by the fear, chaos and upset in the world you’re also putting your future at risk as your intuition won’t have the clear focus that makes it work best. So what to do about it?
The most effective and elegant path to your brilliant future is to track your future. This means maintaining your focus on your future. That is, if you focus on your future-self, on the version of yourself you will be when you have created that brilliant future for yourself you’ll ensure you’ll keep yourself aligned to your future. This keeps your focus where you want it to be, on creating that brilliant future for yourself. One simple way to do this is to focus on your brilliant future self and ask ‘What would that version of me do? What would future-me do in this situation?’ If you do that, not only will you keep moving in the direction of your most brilliant life and what you want to create but your intuition will be able to work most powerfully to support you to get there as well.
