Ritual of Cleansing and Release

cleansingandreleaseThis ritual is an application of the Law of Exchange. Rituals work because they are like living symbols.  It’s their symbolic content which directly impacts our subconscious but it is the living quality of these symbols that makes them so powerful because it is that which effects our Body’s consciousness.

This ritual is particularly helpful when we’re wanting to release something that has affected our body, like some old trauma, or something we’re finding it hard to let go of.  The reason we often find it hard to let go of things is because we know, as soon as we do, something else is going to turn up in its place.  Unconsciously we resist letting go because we don’t know what’s going to turn up next.  It’s a case of ‘better the devil we know, than the devil we don’t’.  By using this ritual we set clear guidelines as to what is going to turn up next.  It’s one of the reasons this is so effective.

For this ritual you will need:

Pen and paper

A lighted candle

A bowl of warm water (you can put some essential oils or rose petals in it) and a washcloth

A safe warm space  (This ritual may be done naked.)

Prepare by tearing the paper in half from top to bottom.  This will leaves us with a left-hand-side piece of paper, and a right-hand-side piece of paper.

The left represents the past.  Write on the left-hand-side piece of paper up to (meaning no more than) 5 things you wish to release.  The reason there is only 5 is because this ritual works and if you release too many things at once it will create chaos in your life.  You can always do the ritual again later.  Remember, you can grow easily and with grace.  Give yourself the grace of doing so.

The right represents the future.  So then on the right-hand-side piece of paper write one (1) appropriate thing you wish to receive in exchange for each thing released.  We should have an equal number of things on both pieces of paper.  Something appropriate doesn’t mean the exact opposite of the thing we release, but something meaningful and appropriate for where we’re at in our journey.  For example, if we release guilt we may wish to receive peace or serenity, or confidence or power.  Or if we release greed, we may want to receive clarity around your purpose, or unconditional love, or abundance.

Once we have our lists we’re ready to proceed. The ritual is simplicity itself.  You can dress it up, if that would feel more meaningful for you.

To perform the ritual, light the candle. Burn the left-hand-side piece of paper to release those things you want to release.

Then do a ritual washing from the top of your head to the bottom of your toes. This is the pattern in which things tend to leave our bodies. A ritual washing can be done with the bowl and the washcloth, or even in the shower.  The main thing is to wash yourself with focused intention that you are washing away the things you want to release.

When we’ve finished our ritual wash,we burn the right-hand-side piece of paper. We do this with the intention of opening to our desires.

Tip out the water when you’re done. Some people report the water seems heavier at the end. Perhaps it is from the weight of all those things released.  That is something you’ll have to make up your own mind about.

The only thing that remains to be done is to watch for the changes to flow through your life, and to look forward to our positive outcome.
