One question that rules your life . . .

Why dewayne gupta
There’s a question that rules your life – even if you don’t consciously know the answer.

There’s a question you can ask yourself in every moment to change your life. This one question alone has the power to redirect your energies, change the alignment of your life and the destiny of your path. It can change the course of your day, determine the state of your mood and increase or decrease the stress you’re feeling right now. It will effect everything you manifest and the outcome of each action you take. It will control how you experience every single day of your life.

So what’s the question already?

So it’s a pretty important question, right?

Okay, so here it is – what are you focused on right now?

This one question affects so much of your life because all your energies  go to whatever you’re focused on. Here’s a simple test to demonstrate that to yourself. Ready? WHATEVER YOU DO DON’T THINK OF A PINK ELEPHANT.

Pixabay pink elephant
So did you think of a pink elephant? How long did it take you to think of something else? Like a purple giraffe?

You thought of a pink elephant, right? Don’t worry. We all do. That’s the point. Our mind automatically focuses on whatever’s in front of us, whether it serves us or not. It can’t be helped, it’s the way your mind automatically works. That’s not the problem. Sometimes what is put in front of you serves you, by making you laugh or giving you a wonderful new idea or source of inspiration. It’s when ideas that don’t serve you come into your space. You’ll still focus on them. It’s an instinct. You can’t help it. What is important, however, is what you do next.

If your mind stays stuck on the pink elephant, you’re in trouble. With all that’s going on in the world right now, you could even be in serious trouble. There’s so much going on that’s negative, divisive and generally toxic that if you remain focused on it you’ll end up anxious, depressed or stressed. It’s times like these when you need to exercise your ‘focus muscles’ and keep your focus on what serves you.

Hope mi pham
Whatever you focus on you receive more of – focus on joy and you’ll get more joy.

Anything that doesn’t serve you is a distraction. It’ll take your energy away from what you want to create in your own life and put it somewhere else, usually in a place that works for someone else but probably not for you. You receive tremendous benefits when you keep yourself focused on the things that serve you. Your energy will flow into what you want more easily, your life will become more aligned improving the ease and flow in your life and you’ll feel more supported as your results improve.

Here’s a simple trick to help you stay focused on what you want (and not on what you don’t want):

  1. Write down three to five things you want. They can be tangible things, like a healthy body, or intangible, like greater happiness.
  2. Focus on each one. Do you get a picture in your mind that feels good? That is what you want? If so, well done. That’s a positive focus. If not, re-word what you want until the picture is what you want.
  3. Once you’ve have your three to five things that you want, put that list of things somewhere you can see it or find it easily. You can put it on a postit on your mirror, or in your car. You can also put it in the notes in your phone. You can also put it as an event in your calendar so it pops up regularly to remind you what to focus on.
  4. When something grabs your focus during your day, do the same thing. Notice if the image it gives you in your mind feels good or not. If it does you can work with it. If it doesn’t make you feel good you’ll need to re-focus.
  5. You can use your list to re-focus yourself. Picture the things on your list to get yourself back onto a positive track for the day.

The more you practice this the more fit your ‘focus muscles’ will become. Then the world won’t be able to distract you from what you want.

Future tracking: the most elegant path to your most brilliant future

Now where ian schneider
Once you arrive at your new reality that’s where you’re going to have to live.

Where is your future taking you?

With all the chaos, fear and stress in the world it’s easy to get distracted. Unfortunately when you focus on all the negativity and difficulty, whether it’s your own or what’s going on in the world, all it does it make it harder for you to create what you want in your life. Whether that’s a more profitable business, a more intimate relationship or a more fulfilled life there is one essential ingredient you need if you want to create it. This essential ingredient is focus, which is exactly the thing that all the world’s chaos and upset attempts to take away from you.

Mind reader thu anh
Don’t let your focus get hijacked.

It’s been said that we no longer live in the information age but in the attention economy. We generally value most that which is scarcest. Back before the internet was created information was scarce, so we valued it more than we do today. The world wide web has made information abundant. Of course quality information is still scarce but now what is most valued is your attention. In a wide, interconnected world it is attention that has become scarce which is why there are so many things screaming to get your attention. This means you need to understand the value of your attention and not just in what you choose to follow on social media. Your attention and where you place it has a huge impact on your ability to create what you want in life.

The stronger your integrity the more clearly you recognise integrity in others
Who’s in charge of your focus? You? Or whoever’s shouting for your attention?

Your focus affects far more than you realise. If you’re focused on negative stuff your mood is also likely to be pretty negative. Focus on the positive and it’s easier to feel optimistic. When you focus on problems it’s harder to find the solution than if you’re focused on finding the way forward. How you use your focus also has a huge impact on your intuition.

The logic of your intuition, which you can read about in my book The Soul’s Brain, is pattern based. Another way to think about that is that it’s more concerned with your alignment than it is with putting things into the right / wrong basket. In other words, your intuition largely works by knowing what is aligned to your chosen outcome or focus and what isn’t. So when you allow your focus to be distracted by the fear, chaos and upset in the world you’re also putting your future at risk as your intuition won’t have the clear focus that makes it work best. So what to do about it?

How far is your future
Align yourself to your future and your intuition will take you there.

The most effective and elegant path to your brilliant future is to track your future. This means maintaining your focus on your future. That is, if you focus on your future-self, on the version of yourself you will be when you have created that brilliant future for yourself you’ll ensure you’ll keep yourself aligned to your future. This keeps your focus where you want it to be, on creating that brilliant future for yourself. One simple way to do this is to focus on your brilliant future self and ask ‘What would that version of me do? What would future-me do in this situation?’ If you do that, not only will you keep moving in the direction of your most brilliant life and what you want to create but your intuition will be able to work most powerfully to support you to get there as well.

Effective Sleep

Sleep is one of the most important things we do during our day.  It enables us to heal ourselves, to recharge the batteries, work through problems and challenges at a deeper, subconscious level, and to rebuild our kidney energy.

Have you ever found it difficult to get to sleep?  Have you lain awake while your mind went at a million miles an hour? Or got to sleep only to wake through the night over and over again?

Or, alternately, have you ever gone straight to sleep and woken hours later, though it only feels like ten, with a deep sense of peace and restored energies?  A sense of such relaxation that your first impulse is simply to stretch out along the bed?

This first scenarios is due to first our system is in the over-adrenalised state of a fight:flight response.  We are hyperalert, listening out for the threats lurking around us.  This state has survival advantage when we are in hostile territory.  Unfortunately, in our modern world we respond in the same way to the stresses of work, life and relationshps just as we would have when there were predators or hostile forces nearby.

Even worse, as we get exhausted due to lack of sleep our adrenals have to work even harder to keep us going, making it harder for us to sleep the next night.  We’re not reaching the deeper stages of sleep, and this means we’re not regenerating and receiving all the benefits of sleep.  In fact, this cycle of stress-poor sleep-more stress is the same cycle experienced by those with PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder).  Unfortunately for many of us the stress of our lives has caused sufficient trauma to our systems that we are in this state.

In the alternate state we are operating from our rest: regeneration system, rather than our fight:flight one.  Our system is running off dopamine and endorphines, which represent the healthy and happy biochemistry, rather than adrenaline, which is neither happy nor healthy.

brain_wavesIn sleep, our brain cycles through the different states.  These are indicated by the level of activity, or brain wave, in our brain at any time.  The beta state is linked with stress and worry over stuff like the mortgage, or state of the world, or what we need to do.  The alpha state is anything from being relaxed but alert, down to when we’re dreaming.  We need to be at least in alpha to get to sleep and dreams assist us to solve problems but in alpha we don’t regenerate.   Theta gives us truly restorative sleep, though delta is deeper.  Most of us spend no more than a few minutes in delta in an entire night’s sleep.  We cycle up and down from alpha to delta through the night. In healthy sleep we spend most of our time in theta.  With more stress, the longer we’ll spend in alpha and the less in theta and delta.

sleep cyclesThe way to achieve effective sleep is to be able to get down into theta as quickly as possible and stay down there as long as possible.  As you can see on the right, in the lighter cycles we spend less time in the deeper states, and some cycles miss the deeper states entirely.  When we are stressed we skip over the deeper cycles and keep to these lighter cycles. This is another way of saying we spend all night wrestling with our problems.  One way to ensure we get into the deeper states is to find a way to put our problems aside during sleep time.

Simple lists can help us put our problems aside.  By writing a list of what we’re going to do the next day our mind can let go of them until then.  But only if we can put this list into a space which is associated with our work, and that is separate from our sleep space.  In other words, putting our lists on our devices, if we take those devices to bed with us, sometimes is not enough of a separation.

In Fractology we understand the power of our focus.  This is the whole point of the glass being half full or half empty.  Of course, the simple truth is that it is both, but whatever we focus on strongly effects our attitudes and our experiences, and hence our energy, our health and our general enjoyment of life.  When we focus on what is full, what is empty falls away from our awareness.   Focusing on our own unique resonance, or by flowing appreciation to ourselves, is another way to help ourselves disconnect and reach deeper states.

The more we can support our system to reduce its adrenaline load the better we will sleep.  This is why exercise can be very helpful.  Recent studies of interval training has shown that it is a powerful way of reducing the levels of adrenaline in our system.  Interval training means doing just one minute of exercise at a time, but that minute is all out.  Doing this when we first get home from work is an excellent way of reducing our stress and assisting our bodies to switch off.  As they say we only need six minutes of this intense effort a week, in six lots of one minute, by doing it each day after work we can nearly ensure we achieve this level.

There are many other techniques, some of which work better for some people than for others.  The most important point is, as always, to find the techniques that work for you, that enable your system to get the maximum ‘reboot’ of your fractal system in those deeper states of sleep.  This is one of the ways we can all help ourselves to flourish.

A Fractologist’s view

I’ve been asked many times what it is we Fractologists see.  It’s a tricky question of course, because every Fractologist perceives energy and its underlying fractal structure differently.  Some of us see it, though in different ways, some of us feel it and some of us hear it like a repeating phrase of music.

But no matter how we perceive it we all perceive the same integrity pattern that underlies and creates the essence of all things.

This short video is a fractal zoom video.  It’ll take you deep into the most famous fractal of them all, the Mandelbrot set.  Notice how much infinite detail there is in the fractal, and how the initial pattern keeps turning up, no matter how deeply we go.  These are essential fractal traits.
